a pile of 1/2 inch hexes ready to be sewn together. I am thinking of making the hexes into the front of an eye pillow and the back to be linen for a Friend that is going through a rough patch at the moment. although...............
i am tempted to join in with this....
but with 1" hexes i think, to save my sanity...

trying new recipes
mum and dad gave me this book for my birthday.
tomorrow i am going to lunch with a few friends. it is to celebrate mine and another girls birthday and we are trying to make this a monthly event. a chance to stop and enjoy each others company rather than the quick hello in the kinder and school car parks.
we all have to bring a plate. so what better way to try something new...
sweetheart torte.
it was a huge success... only crumbs left. this will be going into the cook again file.

36
thirty six today.... i have never struggled with age, or worried about being older, i guess i have always been pretty comfy in the age and stage that i am at in my life, however this year 36 seems to be old, on the down hill slide to 40.... i know we cant stop time and i don't want to as i am loving my journey but i would like to be in a holding pattern now for a few years, to slow everything down and spend more time being this age and in this stage of my life; but i know we cant so i guess i just have to embrace every moment and enjoy every day good or bad. sure some days are hard and some are even harder and there are times where you wonder if the decisions you have made are the right ones, but then when you stop and reflect its all OK.
35 was a hard year and i am looking forward to new beginnings and goals, new ways of thinking, new experiences and adventures over the coming year.

with this amazing autumnal weather we had today the boys and i spent the day in the garden.
we try so often to plant veggies and and make them grow but our nocturnal furry friends seem to have other ideas. this summer we managed to have 3-4 ripe tomatoes and an almost ripe apple cucumber before the possums ate it all.
i have these wonderful ideas and dreams that we will grow veggies, the boys will be able to go outside and pick herbs and seasonal vegetables for dinner. so today we went to the nursery(again) and bought some seedlings as well as stakes and bird netting.
after Hugo had planted our seedlings i actually took the time to sit with the warm sun on my back and fully net the garden properly this time, with an easy opening so we can access the plants.
now with fingers crossed i hope we will have a plentiful crop this winter.

a wobbly tooth
Hugo came home concerned today that his tooth hurt. after investigation we discovered that his bottom right front tooth is wobbly. with excitement and nervousness he ate his dinner and went to bed.....
i am feeling REALLY emotional, i shouldn't be but to me its another step away from childhood, its another stage of life, my baby is growing up and i am already missing him, wanting to hang onto every precious moment.
who sped up time? where has the last six years gone, why am i blinking and missing it?

this afternoon we went indoor rock climbing.
even Archie loved it and climbed to the top of many of the walls.
Hugo wants to go again tomorrow.
it was a great afternoon for all of us to participate in something together.

pom poms
pom poms have filled our days these school holidays.
one day last week when we went to the gym i collected the boys from the creche and they proudly showed me the pom poms they ha made. so a quick trip to Big W for some yarn and we haven't looked back...
this evening as we were sitting making yet another pom pom Hugo said to me " we could put these in a shop to show people mum and we could tell them how to make them and give them all the things they need" "a kit" i said "a kit to make pom poms" "yes" said Hugo. "we would need to tell them how"
here are Hugo's instructions on how to make pom poms
you need 2 circles with a hole in the middle. you then get wool and wrap it around and around till you cant fit any more through the hole.
then you cut it with scissors and tie it in the middle. pull out the circles and its all done.

new supplies
today we were near Patchwork on Central Park so how could i drive past without stopping !!
the boys were surprisingly good and i managed to buy some new fabrics for my stash.
Hugo picked the two top fabrics... and the rest , well no excuses really just a need !!!!!
i am feeling drawn to hexes at the minute and think that these fabrics might be the start of a new hex project.
